About Dr. Gupta

Shalu Gupta, M.D. is a skilled and compassionate board-certified ophthalmologist and a refractive surgeon who treats many eye diseases including cataracts, glaucoma, dry eye, and diabetic retinopathy. She also treats cosmetic and functional disorders of the eyelids and performs procedures such as blepharoplasty, ptosis repair, and minimally invasive facial rejuvenation.

She has performed thousands of microsurgical and ophthalmic laser procedures, utilizing advanced technology for correcting myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), astigmatism and presbyopia (loss of reading vision in patients over the age of 40).

She also feels privileged to provide eye care to the underserved, seeing patients at Los Angeles County Medical facilities, and finds rewarding her medical mission work abroad. Most recently she volunteered her expertise and internationally travelled to Uganda and Mexico to provide eye care and perform surgeries for hundreds of patients over a span of few days.

Dr. Gupta enjoys combining art and medicine to help her patients look their best  by utilizing the latest in minimally invasive facial enhancement techniques.

Dr. Gupta received her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at the University of California, Los Angeles. She has also worked as a health services researcher, focusing on diseases of the eye and their relation to patients’ quality of life. After getting her undergraduate degree she moved on to UCLA’s medical school where she received her doctorate in medicine in 2003. She then completed her internship at Harbor UCLA Medical Center, Department of Emergency Medicine. Afterwards, she went on to complete her ophthalmology residency at the University of California Irvine Medical Center, where she served as chief in her final year.

Dr. Gupta is a present member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a fellow with the American Board of Ophthalmology, and member of the Orange County Society of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Gupta is fluent in Hindi, and Spanish. Her personal interests include yoga, service associated travel, and spending time with her family.
