About Dr. Chan

Dr. May Chan is a Southern California native who is excited to return to her hometown to serve patients. She was born and raised in Long Beach where she attended Poly High School. Dr. Chan then attended UCLA for her undergraduate studies, where she earned a BA in Psychology. Her interest in Optometry developed during her time at UCLA, while she was volunteering with a local optometrist. She had the opportunity to participate in mission trips in West Hollywood and Mexico, and enjoyed the positive impact one could make on improving vision and providing quality eye care.

Inspired by these experiences, Dr. Chan decided on a career in Optometry, and earned her doctorate degree from Western University of Health Sciences. During her training, she was exposed to a variety of ocular issues as she completed internships at the Eye Care Center in Pomona, Jackson Vision Clinic in Seattle, Veteran’s Affairs in Tennessee, Hu Hu Kam Indian Health, and Family Optometry in Arizona.

After completing her optometry degree, Dr. Chan joined a community health center in Ventura, where she has cared for patients for the last few years. She recently moved back to Long Beach, and looks forward to growing her optometric practice here. She is licensed by the California Board of Optometry and is a member of the California Optometric Association as well as the American Optometric Association. She is a considerate and compassionate optometrist who strives to provide excellent eye care to her patients. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, exploring new restaurants, and spending time with her friends and family.
