Rodrigo Torres, MD

Dr. Rodrigo Torres is a board-certified ophthalmologist providing exceptional eye care in Southern California since 2002. He is fascinated by the modern technological advances in vision care and is passionate about sharing his expertise with his patients so that they can enjoy the best outcomes. 

A talented and experienced eye physician and surgeon, Dr. Torres is skilled in the latest techniques for Cataract Surgery, Premium Lens Technology, LASIK Refractive Surgery, Glaucoma Surgery, and Eyelid Surgery. When asked what his favorite part of being an ophthalmologist is, his answer is “that smile when you help someone see again. There simply is nothing else like it.”

He earned his Medical Degree at Harvard Medical School and completed his Internship at the Cambridge Health Alliance, also affiliated with Harvard Medical School. He completed his Ophthalmology Residency at the Doheny Eye Institute and the University of Southern California. He went on to complete a Fellowship in Glaucoma at the Devers Eye Institute in Portland, Oregon, where he also served as a Clinical Instructor at the Oregon Health Sciences University. Teaching the next generation of doctors is a priority he takes seriously. He continues teaching and has served as a Clinical Instructor for the Long Beach Family Medicine Residency Program since 2009. He also serves as Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at MemorialCare Long Beach Memorial Medical Center.

Growing up in Iowa and having completed his Bachelor of Science at the University of Iowa, Dr. Torres has a traditional Midwest upbringing. However he also enjoys a diverse cultural background. His parents came to the U.S. from Mexico and Argentina. He is fluent in Spanish which is an invaluable skill he uses to provide superior care to his patients every day. 

When outside the office, Dr. Torres loves traveling, exploring other cultures, and enjoying the great outdoors. His interests include hiking, biking, and anything having to do with animals and nature.
